Relief for Dewetshof Old Age Home residents

DEWETSHOF – Residents are relieved that grass has been cut.

After numerous complaints, senior citizens at Dewetshof Old Age Home are relieved now that the grass surrounding the property has been cut.

Residents previously raised concerns about their safety after the grass had not been mowed since last year.

“We pay to live here but the service delivery is really bad. It is not just grass but a lot of things. When the grass has not been cut, we become sick. Mosquitoes bite us and we were scared that we might end up with malaria,” said one of the residents, Alice Makalo.

Zanele Ngobeni, another resident said, “I was afraid of criminals because this place looked like a bush. I hope the department of housing will continue bringing service delivery to us.”

Ward 118 councillor Neuren Pietersen said he would like to thank the chairperson of the Section 79 Housing Committee, Suzanne Clarke, who assisted him in holding the Department of Local Government and Housing to account and getting the grass mowed.

“I will always ensure that elderly citizens get better service delivery,” promised Pietersen.
