Floods caused traffic chaos this morning at the R24 West outside Eastgate Shopping Mall in Bedfordview.
There was only one lane opened as members of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services (EMS) and Disaster Management Services were searching the road to find blocked drains so that the road could be cleared.
It is alleged that an elderly woman drove her car through straight into a part of the road that was deeply flooded and was forced to abandon her vehicle which remained floating in the water. However, when the express arrived on scene, the car was not there anymore.

Motorist have been warned to avoid the R24 highway past Eastgate to Bruma and find alternative routes as the area is flooded.
According to reports one car is blocked and is half way under water.
