The elderly celebrate the day of love

JEPPESTOWN – A love-filled day shared with the elderly.

The elderly were shown love and care on Valentine’s Day at Bertha Solomon Recreation Centre in Jeppestown.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development, together with Sylvia Govender and the Apostolic Faith and Acts Church, hosted a lunch for our older communtiy to celebrate the day of love.

He said there are a number of elderly people who are suffering in the community as they don’t receive love and care. “You would find an elderly person locked up because of their condition. Some suffer from dementia and the community doesn’t understand the condition and that leads to them abusing the elderly.”

Health educator Jabulile Magubane from Jeppe Clinic was invited to encourage the elderly to take care of themselves. “As health educators, our purpose is to serve the community and especially the elderly.

“You find that some of them cannot even come to the clinics because of their health conditions. We step in if they need help and go to them to render clinic services where they stay.”

Thabethe also called on the community to adopt an elderly person.
