Jeppe boys shine at regattas

KENSINGTON – Jeppe boys rowers give an outstanding performance on the water.

 

Jeppe High School for Boys’ U16 and U19 rowing squads took part in two regattas last week in East London, the 130th Buffalo Grand Challenge Regatta and the Selborne Sprints Regatta.

The Selborne Sprints Regatta is raced over 500m and comprises heats and finals on the same day. Out of 17 boats entered, Jeppe qualified for seven A finals.

The Buffalo Regatta is the priority regatta for the weekend and is raced over 2000m with heats on the Thursday and finals on Saturday.

Jeppe High School for Boys’ rowers Stephen Selepe and Malick Burger.

Out of 16 boats, Jeppe qualified for 10 A finals. Jeppe’s first pair and first four were the fastest qualifiers in their divisions. The first pair were placed first in their A final and the first four were awarded first place as the fastest qualifiers when the final race was cancelled due to lightning.

Jeppe was awarded a prize of R20 000.

The school is proud of their rowing squads.
