Emmanuel home needs donation

BERTRAMS – A non-profit organisation is pleading for any donations from the public.

The Emmanuel home, a non-profit organisation based in Bertrams, is pleading for donations from local community members and businesses in the area.

The owner of the organisation, 76-year-old Ivy Hammand, said she started the organisation in 2004.

“I saw bad things happening to children so I decided to start the Emmanuel organisation. Back then children were cut off grant money at the age of 14. I then asked myself how children were going to survive without the grant. I took them in and I’m looking after them,” said Hammand.

She is supporting the children from her own pension money. “I don’t get any help from anyone.”

Hammand supports 16 children, eight girls and eight boys, from disadvantaged families whose ages range from 15 to 22. “Giving the little that I’m giving makes me feel good. This is what God sent me to do.

“The home is appealing for any donations from the community. Any donation from the public will be welcome.”
