The Rotary Club of Bedfordview hosted guest speaker Piet de Wit on Tuesday last week.

Mr De Wit is chairman of Remme-Los, an independent living centre registered as a non-profit organisation. It is also a level 4 BEE registered organisation.

He hopes to have the house run independently without government support and to be financially sustainable.

Mr De Wit is a quadriplegic and life does not get him down as he is still very involved in the community, loves camping, braais with friends and family, and he is passionate about fishing.

He received his national colours for angling in November 2016.

The Remme-Los Independent Community Living Centre is for quadriplegics and paraplegics.

It provides permanent accommodation, transport and other much-needed services to people with spinal injuries.

Seven residents live at Remme-Los and benefit through the Remme-Los programme.

The residents themselves are responsible for the daily management of the centre. They support and learn from each other, organising themselves and work.

Rotarians attended the talk held at the Belgravia Bowling Club in Bedfordview.
