Jeppe Girls to host 89th Flower Show

KENSINGTON – Jeppe Girls gear up for their 89th Flower Show.

Jeppe High School for Girls will celebrate its 89th Flower Show on 24 and 25 February.

Each girl in the school takes part in the show and is encouraged to unleash her creative and imaginative skills.

The schoolgirls are not given any formal instruction in the art of flower arranging.

“Many find they have a natural talent and enjoy expressing themselves in this creative medium,” said Carole Heming, Jeppe Girls public relations officer.

“The girls are encouraged to enter as many of the categories of the show as possible and there are usually more than 2 000 arrangements submitted each year. The arrangement is judged and the girls are awarded points for their houses.”

Heming said the judges are people who have been connected to the school and particularly to the show, or are people in the flower and garden industry.

Old Jeppe girls are encouraged to get involved in the show as well.

This year, the old girls are invited to visit the school on 23 February and arrange their flowers at the school between 3pm and 8pm. The flower show is open to the public from 2.30pm to 6pm on 24 February and from 8.30am to 12.30pm on 25 February.

Entrance is R10 for adults and R5 for children.

Refreshments will be on sale and secure parking is available on the lower grounds of the school.
