Yeoville cops bust 44 suspects

Yeoville police had a successful few days when they arrested 44 suspects between 11 and 16 January.

They were arrested for various crimes ranging from housebreaking and drunk driving to sexual assault:

• 1 for attempted murder
• 1 for kidnapping and assault
• 1 for sexual assault
• 3 for robbery
• 8 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• 3 for common assault
• 5 for possession of drugs
• 10 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• 2 for reckless and negligent driving
• 2 for possession of suspected stolen property
• 1 for intimidation
• 1 for fraud
• 3 for theft
• 3 for shoplifting.

“The suspects have appeared in court. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remain in prison while police investigations are continuing,” said spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.
