Oriel Park well underway to completion

She also asked residents to look out for any abuse of the stream or surrounding areas.

Oriel residents have sung the praises of ward 20 Councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, for her efforts in the improvement of Oriel Park.

After she took over the reigns from her predecessor, Clr Michele Clark, Clr Humphreys met with residents, contractors and municipal officials to ensure work was being done at the park.

“Credit where it’s due. Thanks to Clr Humphreys’ persistence and to the City of Ekurhuleni’s efforts, our dear little park is smiling again – A huge improvement well done [and] keep up the good work,” posted one resident on social media.

Updating the residents, Clr Humphreys said the park was finally cleared of the dump material she had previously complained about.

“Oriel Park has finally been cleared of the dump material. The opening has also been closed by some of the logs, to discourage further dumping. The jungle has also been mowed and weeded. The ‘project’ is due to resume in this month when the dead trees will also be replaced.

The logs and rocks will be placed within the park as landscaping and biodiversity

The gaps in the hydro seeding must be also addressed.

She also asked residents to look out for any abuse of the stream or surrounding areas.

“If you see this happening please contact me,”said Clr Humphreys.

Clr Humphreys reminded residents that fibre optics contractors are back in the area and digging has resumed.

“If they are going to dig in your road, you must be notified as they will dig across your driveway. You need to bear in mind that even though you have gone to a lot of trouble to keep a beautiful and neat pavement garden, the pavement belongs to council and the fibre contractors have permission to dig there. However, they must do complete rehabilitation. They have specialist pavers, landscapers and electricians. If they go through your intercom system or pavement lights, make sure your restoration is to your satisfaction,” said Clr Humphreys.

She said residents can contact her on 082 450 0128.
