Ward 118 councillor has plans for 2017

MALVERN – Residents are assured they will receive better service delivery.

Ward 118 councillor Neuren Pietersen has promised that his residents will receive service delivery this year.

He said he builds relationships with people who work for the administration every day. “I am impressed by their willingness to serve and do their jobs with pride. Working for the Metro police, City Power, Joburg Water, Johannesburg Roads Agency, City Parks and Pikitup comes with a myriad of challenges made worse by ineffectively allocated budgets,” said Pietersen.

He said City Parks has not managed to keep up with the grass-cutting demand in the ward for most of December and January, and he will follow up to ensure that service is delivered.

Pietersen said he is pushing for replacement bins and more effective policing around the bin theft epidemic. Thereafter, he is driving for re-tarring of Queen Street and paving, including Malvern. “I have taken the administration on a tour of the area and it’s clear they do not have the budget to rectify the above in this financial year. But, hopefully, we can make a start with the wheelie bins.”

The Wheelie Bin Campaign is being kicked-off with a petition that may be accessed via his Facebook page @cllrneuren.

He said the Urban Development Framework for Cyrildene must proceed so that the City can establish and clean up the precinct of China Town in a manner that will keep residents happy and the wheels of commerce turning, ultimately creating a destination for tourists and hungry patrons alike.

“Good news from the mayor’s office is that the corridor around Jules Street has been identified as one of seven precincts earmarked for improvement. So, it will benefit from the priorities of the DA-led municipality,” he said.

Some of DA priorities are:

  • To encourage urban regeneration
  • Promote economic development and investment activity
  • Upgrade informal settlements
  • Improve service delivery performance and develop a service delivery culture
  • Improve residents’ safety by increasing the number of police officers
  • Reform the public transport model.

Pietersen said these priorities are the part of DA’s strategy, and they are bound to be beneficial to the long-neglected Malvern and surrounding areas.

“Until these larger projects kick in, I want to ask residents to fill in the petition they can find on my Facebook page and register if their dustbin has been stolen,” he concluded.
