Suspect killed in shoot-out with cops

BEZUIDENHOUT VALLEY – Hijacker dies in shootout with police.

 

During a shoot-out, Jeppe police killed a suspect who had just hijacked a BMW on 6th Avenue in Bezuidenhout Valley on 10 January.

A 31-year-old man, sitting inside the stationary car, was approached by two men who pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to hand over the car keys. “The other suspect searched him and took R1 600 from his pocket and ordered him to get out of the car and lie down,” said Jeppe police spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai.

The two suspects them jumped into the car and drove off. “Within a few minutes a police vehicle drove past and the victim stopped it and told police he had just been hijacked.”

Police later spotted the vehicle on Viljoen Street in Bertrams and the suspects sped off. “One of the suspects, who was sitting in the passenger seat and shooting at the police, was hit in the head and died on the spot. The driver jumped out of the car and escaped on foot up the koppie and disappeared,” said Munyai.

Police found the firearm used by the suspect inside the hijacked vehicle. A case of car hijacking and attempted murder was opened at Jeppe Police Station.

Investigations are continuing.
