15 years for murder and hijack

CLEVELAND - The Johannesburg High Court has sentenced a suspect to 15 years' imprisonment for murder and car hijacking.

In December last year, Lucas Xolani Mhlopi appeared in the Johannesburg High Court where he was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for a murder and hijacking.

The court found that he had shot and killed the victim after hijacking the deceased’s white Nissan Hardbody at the corner of Frere and Persimmon streets in Malvern on 20 November last year.

“Cleveland police arrested one suspect a little later on the same day. The motor vehicle was recovered in Jeppe,” said Cleveland Police Station spokesperson Captain Johan Jordaan. He also commended his investigating officer, Detective Constable Maluleke for a job well done.
