Social Crime Prevention thanks community

"Community members must come out and support our initiatives."

The Edenvale Social Crime Prevention Unit looks back on a successful 2016 and thanks the community of Edenvale for its support.

Sergeant Jacob Mashile, head of the Social Crime Prevention Unit, said: “The community support was brilliant throughout the year. I hope the community continues to support our initiatives in 2017.”

Sgt Mashile said they are starting the year off with a back-to-school campaign, from January 11 to January 17, which will see the unit visit various primary and high schools.

“The campaign will focus on the dangerous and negative effects of drugs, as well as cyber bullying in schools.”

Sgt Mashile said many other initiatives are planned and that these will be announced at later dates.

“We are hoping for even better support from the community next year and urge everyone to come out and support our initiatives.”

It is his belief that if community members interact with the Social Crime Prevention Unit, better relationships with all SAPS members can be formed.

He said the unit is often the middleman between the community and the SAPS and can provide less formal channels of communication with the SAPS.
