Community must get involved in fighting crime

"We had a number of brilliant successes but it was not enough. We want to put Edenvale Back on the map in a good way,"

Edenvale SAPS is looking to the future and its plans for 2017.

Station commander of the Edenvale SAPS Colonel Robbie Roberts said 2016 has been a difficult year with regards to crime but despite the challenges, there were major breakthroughs in property-related crime in Edenvale.

“We had a number of brilliant successes but these were not enough. We want to put Edenvale back on the map in a good way,” said Col Roberts.

He hopes that the community’s involvement in the fight against crime will grow and that there will be greater involvement in 2017.

The Edenvale SAPS will continue to work closely with all members of the community to combat crime, he added, and strengthen its relationships with Edenvale Community Police Forum, Neighbourhood Watch, ward councillors, residents and business owners.

According to Col Roberts there will be an increased police visibility in Edenvale through police operations and a focus on areas with high crime rates.

“We want to increase the number of arrests and put criminals behind bars rather than displace the crime to other areas.”

Col Roberts concluded by saying that if community members have any issues with the SAPS in the year to come, they can be assured that the correct procedure will be followed in dealing with and resolving these.
