Bedfordview SAPS has vowed to intensify the fight against crime.

In 2017, the station plans to stage more visible policing operations in and around Bedfordview.

Spokesperson, Captain AndrĂ© de Jager, said key point areas include shopping centres as well as the Gillooly’s Interchange.

“That interchange has been problematic with various crimes being committed. We will partner with our colleagues from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) who are already doing work there on a daily basis,” said Capt De Jager.

He said police will watch high density areas closely and based on intelligence, will carry out operations at those specific areas.

Capt De Jager said more imbizos would also be organised to engage with the community in all the three sectors of the policing precinct.

“We are also engaging with shopping centres to beef up their security. We will work hand-in-hand with the security to clamp down on crime,” said Capt De Jager.

Station commander, Colonel Mfihli Matlala, thanked residents for their contribution to the fight against crime.

“I appreciate my community’s efforts in assisting us to fight crime in 2016. I urge residents to continue giving us information and also supporting us. I have no doubt that the partnership will only become stronger in 2017. Thank you Bedfordview,” said Col Matlala.
