ECID working towards a better Edenvale

"So long as businesses comply with the regulations and bylaws of the EMM The ECID is more than happy to have them in the city improvement district,"

Mrs Linda McKenzie, manager of the Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID), said the directors and management would like to wish all ECID members and Edenvale community members a prosperous new year.

With the new year off to a fresh start, ECID has announced its big plans for the improvement of Edenvale town.

One of the large plans in store, is the development of the Edenvale Transport and Housing Hub (ETHH).

Mrs Mckenzie said the proposed design of the mixed usage social development ETHH, will include:

  •  A tertiary education facility.
  • A sporting facility.
  •  Entertainment facility.
  •  Transport system.
  •  Secure parking.
  •  Shops.
  •  A 23 storey high rise building.

Mrs McKenzie said the plan has the full support of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).

Mr Mark Verhoogt, vice-chairperson of ECID, said the ECID project has the best interests of Edenvale’s development and community members in mind.

He said the new development will see the parking lot behind the Eden Mall, being used as the location.

“The total area of the development will be 15856 square metres,” said Mrs Mckenzie.

She said the area will become more pedestrian friendly and attract more businesses to Edenvale.

Mrs McKenzie said the ECID will continue to look at establishing WiFi hotspots in 2017, at either the community centre or the Edenvale Library.

She said the use of security cameras in the city improvement district to improve security, is still being looked at.

Another goal on ECID’s list of priorities, is the enforcement of the EMM bylaws with the assistance of the EMPD and the SAPS.

Mrs Mckenzie said businesses and property owners not complying with the bylaws, is a problem for the ECID.

She said by doing this, she hopes at the same time the ECID can get a bylaw specific court re-established in Edenvale.

“We need specialised teams who know what to do – and how to handle bylaw infringements,” said Mr Verhoogt.

Mrs Mckenzie said ECID will become stricter with noise pollution in the year to come – and will try and impose greater noise restriction in the ECID area.

“So long as businesses comply with the regulations and bylaws of the EMM, the ECID is more than happy to have them in the city improvement district,” said Mrs Mckenzie.

Mrs Mckenzie urged community member in the city improvement district situated between Horwoods and Seventh streets – and Seventh and Voortrekker avenues, to report any municipal issues to her.

She would report the issue to the EMM and monitor the progress of what needs to be done.
