ECPF plans for 2017

"An alert community is the best type of crime prevention,"

The Edenvale Community Police Forum would like to welcome and wish the residents of Edenvale a happy and prosperous new year.

Mrs Linda McKenzie, chairperson of the ECPF, said in 2017 the ECPF will be busy.

Mrs McKenzie said to start the year off the ECPF will be assisting and joining Sergeant Jacob Mashile in his back-to-school campaign.

She said the campaign will begin on January 11.

Mrs McKenzie said following the back-to-school campaign the ECPF will be the driver behind the creation of an official youth group for Edenvale. “A lot of the youth don’t want to talk to adults about their problems but talk to each other,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She hopes that by creating a youth group the Edenvale youth will become more informed and will have their own projects to work towards.

Growing the neighborhood watch in Edenvale, a sub-forum of the ECPF, will be another one of the ongoing projects for the ECPF.

“The neighborhood watch is very active and has a positive result in Edenvale,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Mrs McKenzie said during the course of the year she hopes the good relationship which has been established between the SAPS, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department and the ECPF will continue to strengthen.

“During the course of 2017 the members of the neighborhood watch will go on crime scene management and gun safety workshops,” said Mrs McKenzie. She said by doing this the neighborhood watch will be able to provide efficient and quality support to the Edenvale SAPS.

Mrs McKenzie said in 2017 fund-raising initiatives for the neighborhood watch will continue.

The fund-raising drives will see events held to generate funds for the kit needed by the neighborhood watch when they patrol Edenvale.

Mrs McKenzie hopes that in 2017 the community support will continue to grow and help fight crime.

“An alert community is the best type of crime prevention. Let’s get that safe feeling back in Edenvale” said Mrs McKenzie.

Mrs McKenzie urged the community to report all suspicious behaviour.

She said if community members become a victim of crime they are to:

r Not panic.

r Press their panic button if they have one.

r Phone 10111, which will record the call and provide community members with a reference number.

r Phone the sector vehicles.

r Post information on Whatsapp groups as a last resort.

“If community members are not on the relevant Whatsapp groups they should contact me,”said Mrs Mckenzie.

Residents can contact Mrs McKenzie on: 0839737093.
