St Johns pupils ace their exams

HOUGHTON - St John's College pupils did exceptionally well in 201 with an impressive 100% pass rate.

Head of academics at the school Anne Nettleton said, “Not only are we delighted by the achievements of the boys but acknowledge the tremendous contribution of a committed, dedicated and totally professional staff body and the support and encouragement of our parents.  It is this team effort of the boys, staff and parents which has resulted in such exceptional results.”

The school had two pupils achieve a staggering nine distinctions.

Brandon MacKenzie also earned the IEB’s outstanding achievement award placing within the top 5% of learners in 6 or more subjects and achieved in the top 1% for Afrikaans and Physical Sciences. Mackenzie was able to receive an incredible 91% average.

Quintus Kilbourn also earned a 91% average while gaining the IEB’s Commendable Achievement placing  in the top 5% in 5 or more subjects and placed in the top 1% for English and Mathematics.

The school also saw four pupils earning eight distinctions.

Sango Socikwa also earned the Commendable Achievement ending up in the top 5% in 5 or more subjects and in the top 1% in  English; isiZulu; Mathematics.  His overall average was 93%.

Connor Mercer earned Commendable Achievement coming in the top 5% for English; Latin; Life Sciences; Mathematics.  His overall average was 92%.

Justin Standish-White earned a Commendable Achievement in the top 1 % in for History; Mathematics; Physical Sciences.  His overall average was 91%.

Abram Schonfeldt also earned a IEB Outstanding Achievement who came in the top 5% of learners in 6 or more subjects and the top 1%  in 3 English; Mathematics; Physical Sciences while earning an overall average of 91%.

Marketing coordinator for the school Cailin Wandrag said, “The class of 2016 is truly an astounding class. Highly socially aware, they instigated and drove the #wakeuptoyourprivilege campaign that received wide coverage across media. The academic performance of the 2016 group is noteworthy and this is best seen in the achievements of the top four boys whose year averages were separated by a mere 0.8%, with the gap between the top two boys being a mere 0.17%, both enjoying an 89% average across all subjects. More than 30 boys have the potential to be multiple-distinction candidates.”
