Naidoos reach new heights

The couple sat down with the NEWS to reflect on the past year.

In pursuit of building the country of our dreams, Bedfordview couple Vis and Mona Naidoo are making a difference, one life at a time.

Dubbed the empowerment couple, the husband and wife team has made strides in bettering the lives of girls in poor communities.

As part of the Caring4Girls Trek4Mandela expedition, the couple climbed and summitted Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, in July, to raise awareness about the plight of girls in poor communities who miss school during their periods because they cannot afford sanitary pads.

The couple sat down with the NEWS to reflect on the past year.

“To describe in just two words, I would say the year has been abundant and transformational,” said Vis.

Mona said 2016 was expansive and adventurous for her.

Asked how their involvement with the Caring4Girls initiative has changed their lives, the couple said the journey has made them realise that one does not have to do something huge to make a difference.

“We must do whatever we can. It is the little things that we do that eventually have a huge impact. This has motivated us to go forward and advocate our vision of building the country of our dreams. It has also caused us to take action to improve the quality of life for children in this country,” said Vis.

Come Christmas Day, the couple will bring cheer to the children at Epworth Children’s Village, in Germiston.

The home provides safety for children who come from challenged homes or environments.

“We decided we would make this a merry, fun day for these children and the staff who so graciously take care of them. We will have the lunch prepared for the event and enjoy it with the children at the village,” said Mona.

The couple said their plans for 2017 are already in place.
