Four suspects arrested in connection with a recent business robbery appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 5 December on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and a business robbery.

This after Cleveland Police Station officials received a tip-off from the community of a Toyota Corolla parked on the corner of Derrick and Friedland roads in Cyrildene with suspicious-looking occupants.

Officers proceeded to the given address and upon arrival, found four men seated inside the vehicle. “The officials approached them and ordered the suspects out of the vehicle. They searched them and found a silver rusty revolver with five rounds on one of the suspects. They also found false registration plates, one balaclava, hand gloves and a crowbar in the vehicle,” said spokesperson for Cleveland Police Station, Captain Johan Jordaan.

The false registration plates were allegedly used in a business robbery last month on Jules Street in Malvern.

The suspects were arrested and detained at Cleveland Police Station on 2 December. “They appeared in court [and the case was postponed] while police investigations continue.”
