Scouts lend a hand and pack meals

"At the end of the day all who participated had a warm, joyful heart."

The Harmelia Garden Air Scout and Cub Group recently took part in a community service project held at Stop Hunger Now SA.

The event, which was held on November 12 as part of Genevieve Reid’s First Class Advancement, a level of Scouting skill, was a fun day enjoyed by all.

“At Stop Hunger Now SA, meals get packed for the less fortunate areas, especially for the children. A sachet of vitamins, half a cup of soup mix, one cup soya mix and one cup of rice are the total ingredients of one pack,” said Ms Jillian Wittstock, the troop leader of the Harmelia Gardens Air Scout Troop.

Ms Wittstock said the Scouts and Cubs participated in six hours of meal packing.

She said 28 728 meals were packed on the day through the help of the general public, Cubs and Scouts.

“At the end of the day all who participated had a warm, joyful heart. When Kyle Ferreira, one of the Scouts, was asked if he enjoyed himself he replied, ‘Can we come back every week?'” said Ms Wittstock.
