Suspect nabbed for murder

CLEVELAND – Cleveland police arrest a murder suspect.

Cleveland police arrested a 19-year-old suspect for murder at Mangolongolo informal settlement on 14 November.

According to constable Mpho Mashakane, witnesses who reside in the settlement allege that on 16 October they were sitting in a shack talking when the suspect came in and informed them that they were making a noise and that he wanted to sleep .

The deceased and witnesses apologised to the suspect and promised him that they would keep it down. The suspect allegedly kicked the deceased and assaulted him, then left. “After few minutes the suspect returned with a firearm and shot the deceased several times in the upper body and fled the scene. Paramedics were called to the scene and the man was certified dead,” said Mashakane.

A case of murder was opened at Cleveland Police Station. “Upon investigation, the 19-year-old suspect was arrested. He appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’Court and was remand in custody.”
