The motorist suspected to be responsible for knocking over 32-year-old Lucia Matlou who was then dragged for 30m along Sekoto Street in Newtown was apprehended on 28 November.

According to Captain Kay Makhubela, Gauteng police’s provincial spokesperson, “The man was identified by a resident at a nearby shop where the hit-and-run happened. He was charged with reckless driving and will appear in court soon.
“Matlou has opened a case against the driver.”
Makhubela explained that the driver was allegedly caught on CCTV knocking over Matlou and then dragging her for several meters before speeding off.
The video circulated on social media for two weeks while the search for the man continued.
