Three years’ imprisonment for fake jobs

YEOVILLE –– A 30-year-old accused was sentenced to three years for advertising fake jobs.

Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court sentenced a man who lured victims from other provinces by advertising fake jobs to three years’ imprisonment on 3 November.

Siyabonga Hlekani (30) was arrested on 3 October and charged with theft under false pretenses.

Spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela said,”Detective Constable Zanele Sikhosana’s efforts in opposing the accused’s bail application and building a watertight case paid off.”

He continued, “The accused … opted to plead guilty on the overwhelming charges, possibly before other people could come out and also to try to push for a [heavier] sentence.”
