We need you to make Christmas special

'The list of names of children needing sponsors for Christmas presents is still long - for many of the children, the only Christmas presents they will receive this year are those sponsored by the NEWS’ readers.'

We realise finances are tight, but we hope you, our readers, can find a way to help us make Christmas special for the children at Pinocchio Educare Centre.
The NEWS will once again, with the support of readers and advertisers, host its annual Christmas party for the children.

NEWS hosts 7th annual children’s Christmas party

“The list of names of children needing sponsors for Christmas presents is still long – for many of the children, the only Christmas presents they will receive this year are those sponsored by the NEWS’ readers.”
To date, the NEWS, community members and sponsors have hosted seven successful parties for the children of the Pinocchio Educare Centre.
With our readers’ help and support, we hope to make the eighth year extra-special for the children.
The NEWS will host the party at Pinocchio’s premises in Edenvale on December 6.

New principal for educare centre

The centre currently has 49 children.
The Pinocchio Educare Centre is an early learning centre for the stimulation and development of children from impoverished and low-income families in Edenvale and the surrounding areas.
It provides low-cost day-care and prepares children for entry into local schools.
The centre was started by Child Welfare South Africa Edenvale due to the high cost of daycare in Edenvale, and because of the high number of single-parent children and orphaned children living with relatives.
Readers can visit the NEWS’ office at shop 18a, Greenstone Crescent, Greenstone Hill and pick a name from the list of 49 children.
The reader will be provided with the child’s name, age and gender.
Readers can also phone to select a name. Gifts must be dropped off at the NEWS’ office before November 30.
For more information, phone the NEWS’ offices on 011 609-4966.
