Water supply returning to Edenvale

According to Clr Heather Hart of Ward 18 water should start returning tonight, November 15.

Residents of Edenvale can look forward to having water again following this week’s shortage which affected Edenvale and the surrounding areas.

According to Clr Heather Hart of Ward 18 water should start returning tonight, November 15.

Clr Hart said a combination of factors led to the water shortage which had begun for some residents on November 9, the same day as the heavy rains and subsequent floods.

“Due to a malfunctioning alert system the Isandovale Reservoir ran dry on Wednesday night,” said Clr Hart.

She said the supply of water back to the reservoir was affected by the controlled supply of water by Rand Water and the reservoir was only filled again on November 11.

“Because of Rand Water throttling our supply it took until Friday afternoon for water to be restored after Rand Water was allowed to restore the full supply on Friday morning,” said Clr Hart.

For many residents of Edenvale who were affected by the heavy floods of November 9 and the water shortages this was not the end of their worries.

“On the morning of November 14 residents of the other half of Edenvale awoke to no water again due to infrastructure problems at the town reservoir,” said Clr Hart.

She said the lack of water was not a result of the community not obeying the water restrictions.

Clr Bill Rundle of Ward 19 said many residents were still without water and had to make use of water tankers on November 15.

After communicating with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Clr Hart said Rand Water had begun resupplying water to Edenvale.

She believes the water will start coming through to some areas of Edenvale.

“In a few hours we should start building up pressure to supply all areas,” said Clr Hart.

Clr Hart urged community members to use water sparingly while the reservoir was re-supplied.
