Uber and you can help Alex flood victims

JOBURG – Donate to flood victims today.

Uber is calling on the people of Johannesburg to come together today (15 November) to assist those negatively affected by the recent floods in the Alexandra area.

Last week Wednesday, during heavy rains, the Jukskei River burst its banks and some residents of Alexandra watched as their homes were swept away by the flood. This act of nature resulted in more than 100 people losing their homes.

Uber has created a temporary vehicle view called UberCOMMUNITY, that will allow Johannesburg riders to request a car that will collect donations for the people of Alex currently trying to rebuild their lives.

All Joburgers are encouraged to donate items such as general toiletries, baby products, sanitary pads and non-perishable food items. Every donation, regardless of the size, will make a huge difference to those affected. Donations will be dropped off at the Disaster Management Centre, Sandton Fire Station where they will be sorted, packaged and distributed to those in need.

Follows these simple steps and make a difference:
1. Open the Uber app today between 11am and 3pm
2. Set the destination – Sandton Fire Brandweer
3. Select UberCOMMUNITY
4. Request a vehicle as usual
5. When the driver arrives, please meet him at your pick-up point with your donations.
6. There will be no charge for UberCOMMUNITY, so please get donating and help the people whose lives have been affected by the floods.

Please note, for ease of collection, UberCOMMUNITY is collecting from areas closest to Alexandra:
