Moths pay homage to fallen brothers
Chaplain Gus Mason said the gathering was to remember those who lost their lives.
In an emotional and moving ceremony held at Edenvale’s Dickie Fritz Shellhole, ex-servicemen and women paid homage to their fallen brothers.
Annually, the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) hosts the commemorative service in remembrance of those who fell at Sidi Rezegh.
Old Bill (Officer Commanding) Leonardo Apicella said he was happy with the turnout.
“It is great to see the community coming out to support us. 353 people died that year [1941] and we are here to say we shall never forget them. We will always remember them,” said Apicella.
Chaplain Gus Mason said the gathering was to remember those who lost their lives.
“Today we pay our respects to those who paid the supreme sacrifice.”
Wreaths were laid and crosses planted in the garden of remembrance.
Moth Gordon Walles (94) was the first to lay his wreath.
A fête with various stalls was also held after the formal proceedings of the service.
