EMM responds to ‘sinkhole’

"The area is non-dolomitic as sinkholes do not occur in such geological environments."

On November 4 the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality provided comment on the article, “Local owners get that sinking feeling” published on November 2.

Business owners get a sinking feeling

Local business owners and Clr Wendy Morgan had alerted the NEWS to what they had thought was a sinkhole on Mountjoy Road which formed on October 21.
The hole formed in the driveway of one of the businesses when a forklift was driving up the driveway and the ground began collapsing.
According to Mr Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson and senior media manager for the EMM, it was not a sinkhole.
“The area is non-dolomitic as sinkholes do not occur in such geological environments. The reason for the water might be too much water pressure during the leak that led to the ground, causing a hole to develop.
“The hole will be closed off after repair work of the infrastructure has been completed,” said Mr Gadebe.
