Combined efforts lead to confiscation of abalone

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the confiscation of over a millions Rands worth of abalone in the East Rand.
The two arrests were made on October 28 by the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit and the Endangered Species Unit in Edenvale and Boksburg.
Colonel Robbie Roberts, station commander for the Edenvale SAPS, said the arrest of one of the suspects and the confiscation of the abalone was made in Boksburg.
He said the Edenvale SAPS had received information in connection to the suspect in Edenvale and had waited for the other units before proceeding with the arrest.
Once the other units arrived the Edenvale suspect was arrested.
“When the Edenvale suspect’s house was searched nothing was found on his property,” said Col Roberts.
During the operation Col Roberts said three motor vehicles were confiscated, two from Edenvale and one from Boksburg.
Col Roberts said it is believed that the arrested suspects are part of a syndicate.
The Edenvale suspect was arrested as an accomplice while the suspect from Boksburg was arrested for the possession of abalone, an endangered species.
The suspects will face their charges in Boksburg.
