Jeppe police host successful imbizo

DOORNFONTEIN - Ellis Park Stadium hosted a successful imbizo arranged by the Jeppe police

Jeppe police recently held a very successful imbizo at the Ellis Park Stadium in Doornfontein.

Jeppe Police Station spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai said the imbizo was attended by the community izunduna from Jeppe, George Goch, Kwa Mai-Mai, Denver and Soweto hostels.

He added that city councillors, the Joburg East Police Cluster commander, Jeppe police management and members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department were also present.

Representatives of the Department of Community Safety in Gauteng, City of Joburg, the Jeppe Community Policing Forum, Youth Crime Prevention Desk and street patrollers were also present.

He explained the purpose of the imbizo was to engage with the community. “We discussed the crime and how the police and the community can work together to curb it,” said Munyai. He added that other departments were also invited to respond to enquiries about issues that might also contribute to crime. This included issues such as dark streets where lights are not working, illegal dumping, thick bushes and overcrowded houses.

“There will be follow-up imbizos in the near future so that we can continue working together to make the Jeppe policing precinct a safer place for everyone who live or work here,” said Munyai.
