With only a few days to go, the Edenvale City Improvement District’s (ECID) Festival of Lights and Street Carnival is on your doorstep.
Entertainment galore awaits residents at this year’s carnival.
The Bambanani Brass Band and the Edenglen High Drum Majorettes, The Blues, are ready for the parade.
Blues band to play at ECID festival
Jessie and her Zulu dancing group are a must-see and you can also kick back to the mystical djembe drumming of Kind Bzorobzarabza.
Lucky will be bringing his outreach group of musical youngsters, from the Phikelela Foundation, to join the celebrations as well.
Leon Shaw will be rocking it and residents can catch The Vinylists with their record-breaking set.
DJ Tequila will be adding some house music to the mix, or if you feel like relaxing to a little blues then catch Smoke and Liquid. There is certainly something for everyone.
The main stage area will host a variety of artists, which include some Middle Eastern dancing from Gypsy Rhythms and the ladies form the Bailationo Dance Studio. There will also be self defence demonstrations from GKMI.
“Our carnival troupe BDI has a few amazing tricks up their sleeve so be prepared to be wowed, while Razzmatazz costume hire will be sending through some of their costumed characters to play, “said Ms Katy Young, from the ECID.
“We welcome Shelby Moura, who is Miss Edenvale 2016. She will assist our very own radio station Eden AM with giveaways, courtesy of Build It, Mamba, De Bakery, Ottowa Creek Spur Edenglen and Ola. Be sure to put on your best fancy dress and show your carnival spirit to win spot prizes,” said Ms Young.
Funky Rascal Party Hire will bring jumping castles for the children, as well as activities including a paint ball tunnel, kiddies train and their famous rocket ride.
Jiffy Print Edenvale has kindly sponsored a Go Hunt where children can search along the boulevards for 12 tricky characters. Entry forms can be collected at the children’s area. Remember to pop the completed hunt into the box for a lucky draw.
Katy encouraged the community members to visit the beer garden for craft beer or craft spirit cocktails.
“Try a Mocktail or Smoothie or sit down for some freshly brewed coffee. Delicious meals such as curries, footlong cone pizza, shawarma and more will be available, so come hungry. De Bakery and De Molen Restaurant will both be open for the duration of the festival so you can enjoy their famous baked goods on the evening,” she said.
For those with a sweet tooth, cupcakes, pancakes, waffles , mini doughnuts and other tasty treats will be on sale.
“Our craft stallers have come out in full force. Offering an array of products including whimsical jewellery, collectable vinyls, toys, handcrafted items, stocking fillers and even mattresses, it is doubtful that you will leave empty handed,” said Ms Young.
Sebone to perform at Festival of Lights
Entry is free and security for patrons and their vehicles will be provided courtesy of Mamba Security and the Edenvale Community Police Forum (CPF).
“Be sure to join us for the celebrations and the switching on of the Festive lights that line the boulevards in van Riebeeck Ave. The festival will start at 5pm and ends at 10pm on Saturday, November 5.
