Fire services back on the road thanks to local company
Local company gives back to the community.
To be able to help and give back to the community is something wonderful and Bedfordview-based company Shatterprufe has done just that.
After seeing the article in the NEWS’ sister publication, the Germiston City News, “Rock attack knocks out fire services” (GCN, August 26) about the rock-wielding assailant who damaged a number of fire engines at the Primrose Fire Station, including destroying the windscreen of the station’s major pumper, Monique Oosthuizen from Shatterprufe decided something should be done about the matter.
“I took the initiative and approached my manager Brian Crous about helping the station replace the windscreen,” said Monique.
“He immediately agreed as we want to give back to the community and the Primrose Fire Station is the closest station to our offices.”
The preparations and consultations with Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) then began and a windscreen was ordered for manufacturing.
“The windscreen was made at our factory in Port Elizabeth,” said Brian.
Finally everything was ready and a team from Shatterprufe and PG Glass (both are divisions of the PG Group) arrived at the Primrose Fire Station to give the major pumper the care it needed.
To replace such a huge windscreen is not an easy task but it was accomplished with great skill and good humour by Angelo Wade and Vincent Fortune (both from PG Glass) and Rudolph van Jaarsveld and Sibusiso Ndaba (both from Shatterprufe).
They were given moral support from Monique, as well as Ryno van Vuren (executive manager logistical services for DEMS).
Ryno said that DEMS was extremely appreciative of the gesture.
“It is a very nice gesture and we believe that if the community is behind us we can perform better.
“It was unexpected and we truly appreciate it.”
To add to the care given to the fire engine, Tyron Oosthuizen from Kaitlyn Kaizer Automotive organised a full valet for the pumper.
