One arrested after car chase

"During the chase the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed."

Following a car chase, one suspect was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, the car chase began in sector three in Edenvale on October 18.

He said three officers from the Edenvale SAPS Crime Prevention Unit noticed a suspicious Audi, which drove off at a high speed.

Capt Olckers said the officers gave chase.

“During the chase the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the Klopperpark and Bedfordview area, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest,” said Capt Olckers.

After the suspect was arrested, Capt Olckers said officers learnt that the vehicle was hijacked in September in the Johannesburg area.

“The police officers also found the suspect to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Capt Olckers.

The suspect was charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
