Musician in need of assistance

"Mr Maree is desperate to recover his double bass."

Mr Herman Maree (57), a musician and a full-time music teacher, is looking for assistance in finding a double bass that was stolen from him on September 20.

Ms Wima Maartens, Mr Maree’s cousin, said the instrument which was stolen from Mr Maree’s home was made in Mittenwald, South Germany in 1989 and was signed by Karl Jenkins in 2010.

She said the instrument was packed in a Mooradian bag from Boston, USA.

Mrs Maartens said a second double bass which was stolen at the same time has been found and since returned to Mr Maree.

The instrument was found in a pawn shop in the Edenvale area.

“The assistant (of the pawn shop) said they had bought the two double bases for R1 000 each,” said Ms Maartens.

Ms Maartens said the second instrument had been sold to an unknown customer.

“Mr Maree is desperate to recover his double bass and would be happy to refund the person who bought it unknowingly,” said Mrs Maartens.
