Man sentenced to 15 years for robbery

JOHANNESBURG – Members of the public are encouraged not to buy goods that are sold online without verifying if the information is legit.

The Johannesburg Regional Magistrates’ Court convicted and sentenced 34-year-old James Mncube to 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances on 27 September.

The accused, together with three other suspects, robbed a 38-year-old woman of two cellular phones and R2 000 cash. The four suspects robbed the victim by using a firearm and pepper spray.

“The successful conviction was due to Constable Goodwill Nemukula and Constable Ntikozo Mbhele who were patrolling along Durban Road and Hendon Street and gave chase to the suspects and managed to apprehend one of them,” said spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.

“A job well-done by Constable Ntikozo Mbhele, Constable Sibusiso Charles Cebekhulu, Constable Goodwill Nemukula and Seargent Eric Moabelo,” said Mabizela.

“Yeoville [police] would also like to warn the community not to ask strangers to help them to withdraw money at ATMs. We also advise members of the public that should they decide on buying goods advertised online, they should verify the information of the buyer or seller before depositing money or delivering the goods.

“We also want to warn business owners that are dealing in secondhand goods to refrain from buying suspected stolen goods.”

Anyone with information about the suspects who are still at large is urged to contact Yeoville Police Station.
