Advocate Bizos adds his voice to #FeesMustFall

Adv Bizos said statues are part of history.

South African human rights lawyer Advocate George Bizos said although he believes that fees must fall, he does not support the idea of statues falling.

Adv Bizos is the founding chairman and honorary Life-Vice President of Bedfordview’s Saheti School.

He said, “While at studying at a tertiary institution, my father who earned 40 Pounds at the time, would receive a letter in August of every year saying because he had not paid my fees I would not be allowed to write exams.”

Adv Bizos said statues are part of history.

“I am also of the opinion that guns must fall. Violence must fall. We need to find ways to live with one another. To expect the rich not to pay is counterproductive. We need to find solutions. You don’t burn libraries because you want to be heard. Also, you don’t shoot at people who are protesting. Let them express themselves. Violence does not find solutions, it creates more problems instead,” said Adv Bizos.

Speaking of Saheti, Adv Bizos said the school played a role in transforming education even before 1990.

“I was slammed for admitting non-Greek children. I made sure the doors were open to whoever wanted and needed education,” said Adv Bizos.

Saheti School is situated along Civin Drive in Senderwood.
