Residential burglaries remain a concern

"If you see something suspicious report it to the police."

According to the Edenvale SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jean Olckers, residential burglaries are a concern in Edenvale.

“Currently the areas most affected are the Avenues and Eastleigh, which are situated in sector one and two,” said Capt Olckers.

He said the SAPS urges residents to be alert and to know their neighbours.

“Most cases of residential burglaries take place during weekdays when no one is at home. In some cases, the house burglaries turn into house robberies when domestic workers or an owner was at home and the suspects entered the house,” said Capt Olckers.

Capt Olckers said in most cases there were two or more suspects involved.

“In some cases the suspects were armed and and in others cases they were not,” said Capt Olckers.

He said in the cases where suspects were not armed they made use of garden tools, left outside by home owners, as weapons.

“We will increase our patrols and have more stop-and-search and roadblock operations. We urge residents to be alert and aware of what is going on in their neighbourhood,” said Capt Olckers.

“Residential burglaries in Edenvale are a concern and we need to work together to combat them. If you see something suspicious report it to the police,” said Capt Olckers.
