ECID festival presents Leon Shaw

A legend in the South African live music scene, Mr Leon Shaw, will be performing at the Edenvale City Improvement District’s (ECID) Festival of Lights and Street Carnival.
“Mr Shaw will be adding a great dynamic to the variety of entertainment at the festival,” said Ms Katy Young, the public relations officer and events coordinator of ECID.
Ms Young said the musician will be playing a range of percussion instruments which will include shakers, bongos, tambourines and cymbals.
Mr Shaw will perform a variety of songs, some of them his own originals, while others will include covers of songs from the 70s until the present.
“Mr Shaw has forged a reputation as a solid entertaining act and when not in studio, can be found playing shows, events, festivals and the club and pub circuit on a regular basis,” said Ms Young.
He has released four albums so far.
Ms Young said Mr Shaw was a drummer and backing vocalist for the highly successful band Mean Mr Mustard for nine years.
“Mr Shaw has worked with well-known South African artists like Ed Jordan and Dr Victor, as well as the band Cinema and on the Alter Irving Band’s: Chained to the Wind Album,” said Ms Young.
She said Mr Shaw made waves internationally when he played drums for Jascha Richter from Michael Learns to Rock on the Michael Bolton and Westlife tour in 2007.
“Mr Shaw formed his own project, the Leon Shaw Syndicate, which consists of himself and ex Hotine member Allistair Coackley.”
