Music festival a hit with residents

Families brought picnic baskets to the festival, while some took advantage of the delicious food on sale.

Sacred Heart hosted award-winning artists Lira, the legendary Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and international SAMA & BET award winner DJ Black Coffee at the annual music festival.

The festival was brought to residents by Kaya FM 95.9 and was held at Sacred Heart College on September 24.

The festival began with the Hearts into the Future family cycle ride, which is an official Freedom Ride.

It included a children’s entertainment area, food vendors and music.

Families brought picnic baskets to the festival, while some took advantage of the delicious food on sale and enjoyed Heritage Day, while listening to a musical celebration of African music.

“The iconic Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse enthralled the audience with his chart-topping hits.

“SAMA award winning artist Lira broubht her Afro-Soul music to the festival. The first South African to win the BET Best International Act – Africa Black Coffee brought resounding beats to the festival. Rise Academy DJs were on the decks in support. The evening wrapped up on a high note, with Kaya FM’s The Rhythm Session DJs on the decks,” said Mrs Lynn Walker, from Sacred Heart marketing.

“A portion of proceeds will go towards the Three2Six Education Programme. The Three2Six Programme, which is supported by Sacred Heart College, provides a bridging educational programme for grade R to grade 6 refugee children who have been denied access to public education,” said Mrs Walker.
