Second Avenue residents make the most of massive water leak

Update on October 3: Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe said the water pipe was accidentally damaged by a contractor while excavating the road for the installation of fiber optic cables on Hendrik Potgieter Avenue. “The pipe was repaired on September 27 along with some missing valves that were replaced. Technicians also repaired the leak at the corner of Third Avenue and Seventh Street. Residents are urged to report water leaks to the municipal call centre on 086 054 3000.”
Yesterday, Second Avenue residents made the most of burst water pipe.
Residents collected the wasted water to use on their gardens.
The burst pipe situated at the corner of Second Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Street sprayed water roughly a meter in to the air.
“We are making the most of the situation,” said Mr Kevin Vlietman a resident who was collecting water.
An Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) employee attending to the leak said the municipality was temporarily fixing the leak by putting clamps on the leaking pipe.
The clamps were used to stem the flow of water. It is unclear what led to the water leak.
