Another protest against windscreen washers

“We will do this on a regular basis to ensure the safety of our motorists."

The Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF), together with the community of Greenstone Hill and the surrounding areas, held a passive demonstration against windscreen washers who operate at the Van Riebeeck Avenue and Modderfontein Road intersection.

The protest was held on September 24.

There was not a single windscreen washer at the intersection during the demonstration.

The demonstration followed a recent, previous demonstration held by motorists and residents, who protested against the Bruma windscreen washers.

“We want people to support legitimate charities but we also want to avoid a tragedy from happening. We don’t want people getting killed or hurt because sometimes the windscreen washers get aggressive,” said Mr Leon de Bruin.

“We know the windscreen washers won’t go until the bylaws are enforced by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD),” said SAP business intelligence consultant Ms Leigh Haarhoof.

“Executive mayor Herman Mashaba has already made a deal with the JMPD for visible policing and for the JMPD to start enforcing the City of Joburg bylaws,” said Ms Haarhoof.

Meanwhile, the Edenvale CPF chairperson Mrs Linda McKenzie, said they will not rest until they have found a solution to this issue.

“We will do this on a regular basis to ensure the safety of our motorists,” she said.
