Two arrested after robbery

He said the victim's husband fired shots.

Two men were arrested last Tuesday after a robbery/shoot-out in upper Bedfordview.

The suspects robbed a woman of her Rolex watch and cellphone along Chester Road.

According to spokesperson for Bedfordview SAPS, Captain André de Jager, the men followed their victim from Eastgate Shopping Centre.

He said the victim’s husband fired shots.

“Upon fleeing the scene, the suspects knocked down the locked enclosure gate on Chester Road to exit onto Bowling Road where they crashed and abandoned their car and fled on foot towards Pine Road,” said Capt de Jager.

He said on-scene information suggested the suspects left their accomplice at the Daws Avenue boom entrance and the accomplice held the security guard on duty at gunpoint.

“The guard managed to press his panic button and within seconds, armed response arrived. A shoot-out ensued. The suspect hijacked a contractor’s bakkie and fled the scene,” he said.

The bakkie was recovered within an hour in Primrose.

One of the suspects injured during the shoot-out was taken to Tembisa Hospital and remains under police guard.

Cpt De Jager said items taken during the robbery were recovered.
