The first season of the new-format Telkom Digital Gaming League (DGL) will conclude in October with the master’s final tournament in Johannesburg
The tournament will take place at the rAge Expo which will be held between October 7 and October 9 at the Ticketpro Dome.
At the tournament teams from the eight Masters Multi-Gaming Organisations (MGOs) will compete for R1 million.
The MGO’s include Aperture Gaming, Bravado Gaming, CarboN eSports, Damage Control, Flipsid3 Tactics South Africa, Veneration E-Sports, White Rabbit Gaming and Xperts@Total.Chaos
“Telkom took the decision to back eSports in January. Since the launch we have seen tremendous growth in this sector, with new tournaments opening up and other large prize pools being offered. This is all good news for eSports and we are excited by the future opportunities this gives the MGOs and sponsors alike,” says Jacqui O’Sullivan, managing executive group communication and public relations for Telkom.
At the tournament there will be:
- Two tournaments, one for Counter Strike and Dota 2.
- eSports shoutcaster Paul “ReDeYe” Chaloner to host the final.
- Tech Girl’s Samantha Wright, Kamza Mbatha and Ryan Macquet.
Five hundred competitors will also take part in the Digital Gaming Championship (DGC) at the expo and will see the participants competing in various leagues which include Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, League of Legend, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 PC and PlayStation 4 and Hearthstone.
“Both the DGL and DGC further cements Telkom’s commitment to eSports in South Africa. The more corporates that get behind eSports the better. By attracting the talent we have to this year’s DGL we only see big things in future for the league,” said O’Sullivan.
