SAPS supports Suicide Awareness Month

More awareness needs to be put on suicide prevention.

On September 11 members of the SAPS joined the community and private security companies in the walk to raise awareness about suicide.

Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, said about 500 community members took part in the walk.

“We would like to thank all involved, together we can make a difference,” said Capt Olckers.

As it is Suicide Awareness Month, Sergeant Jacob Mashile, head of the Edenvale SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, has been handing out pamphlets that addresses SAPS suicide prevention.

Sgt Mashile said more awareness needs to be put on suicide prevention.

When helping a person it is important to listen and to treat a person seriously.

It is important to be make sure you show care when dealing with a suicidal individual.
