Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

Upon searching him they found a 9mm pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition. The firearm’s serial number was filed off.

Yeoville SAPS arrested one suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm at the corner of Regent and Bezuitenhout streets in Yeoville on September 3.

“Police were doing a routine patrol when they heard gunshots. When they arrived on the scene, the suspect ran away and they managed to apprehend him at Regent and Bezuitenhout streets,” said Yeoville SAPS spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji.

“Upon searching him they found a 9mm pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition. The firearm’s serial number was filed off. He was arrested and detained at Yeoville SAPS,” said Constable Malatji.

The suspect is expected to appear in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
