Clr Morgan ready to assist the community

“Making a difference and changing the lives of others runs in my blood,”

Recently elected ward 36 Councillor Wendy Morgan from the Democratic Alliance aims to serve the community to the best of her ability while she is in her position.

Clr Morgan, who grew up in Sunnyridge, went to Wits where she completed a National Diploma in Food and Clothing Management. She says it is an honour to be elected as the Ward 36 councillor.

“I want to effect change and make a difference in our community, I am honoured that I have been put in the position by residents to do so,” said Clr Morgan.

Before becoming a councillor, Clr Morgan managed various kitchens at old age homes and had her own coffee shop.

Clr Morgan said she has been involved in the Primrose Community Police Forum for the past eight years.

As the councillor for ward 36, Clr Morgan hopes to address a number of issues in the area.

“Pressing issues in the ward are continuous power and water outages, with over 35 outages in 2016 alone,” said Clr Morgan.

Clr Morgan said these issues need to be attended to.

“When there is no power then there is no water in parts of the ward,” said Clr Morgan.

Clr Morgan, who has also been placed on the oversight committee for community safety, hopes to highlight drug-related crime and youth unemployment in Ekurhuleni.

In order to make communication easier, Clr Morgan said she has started WhatsApp groups in all the different areas in her ward so that she can deal with service delivery issues as they arise.

She added that she has been attending meetings with various departments in order to establish a strong foundation which will help when matters need to be dealt with.

Clr Morgan said the move to politics was not sudden.

“I have been involved in politics for the past eight years, sitting on the previous ward 21 ward committee,” said Clr Morgan.

According to her, Clr Morgan Alderman and Tania Campbell, chief whip of the DA in Ekurhuleni, motivated Clr Morgan to get involved in politics and to stand up and make a difference.

Another two key role players in Clr Morgan’s life were her grandparents, who Clr Morgan helped when they did volunteer work.

Clr Morgan said she was raised in an environment where serving others was the norm.

“Making a difference and changing the lives of others runs in my blood,” she said.

Clr Morgan said that her husband also assists her.

“He has taken up the role of being my personal bodyguard when I attend all the meetings,” said Clr Morgan.
