Man caught with R1.4-million worth of cocaine

Through further questioning the traveller admitted to be the owner of a bag that was allegedly handed to him in Sao Paolo.

Officials from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) intercepted a male passenger who was in possession of a 5kg cocaine package with a street value of approximately R1.4-million at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday.

Initially the traveller indicated he had no luggage.

Through further questioning the traveller admitted to be the owner of a bag that was allegedly handed to him in Sao Paolo.

A thorough search and scan of the luggage that included the use of a detector dog found three smaller bags that contained cocaine.

The traveller and the cocaine were handed over to SAPS for further investigation and possible prosecution.
