Officers from the Cleveland SAPS arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a hijacking incident on September 3.

The arrest was made moments after the incident took place and officers also charged the man with possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The man and his accomplice approached a resident leaving his property in Malvern.

“One of the men asked their victim for his car keys while the other pointed a firearm at him.

“The victim handed over the keys to his car and men drove off.

“While they were fleeing the scene the men were involved in a crash. When police officers arrived shortly after the crash the suspects tried to flee on foot. The officers fired a warning shot,” said Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Constable Mpho Mashakane.

“One suspect was arrested while the second fled the scene. Police are on his trail,” said Const Mpho Mashakane.
