In the early hours of September 9 members from the Edenvale SAPS arrested two suspects for attempted murder.

The suspects were also charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, said the Edenvale police officers noticed a suspicious Toyota Camry in the Greenstone area.

“The occupants of the Camry drove off at a high speed when they saw the officers. The SAPS members followed and called for backup,” said Capt Olckers.

Capt Olckers said the chase led to the Sandringham area where the vehicle came to a stop.

“The suspects jumped out of the car and opened fire at the two officers. The officers returned fire and the suspects surrendered,” said Capt Olckers.

He said two suspects were arrested and two firearms along with live ammunition were recovered.

Captain Olckers said that the two suspects were charged with attempted murder, possession of firearms and the possession of ammunition.

He said the case was opened at the Sandringham Police Station.
